The cacao trees that originated in the Amazon have flourished in Sierra Nevada 4,000 years ago. This rare cacao growing in high altitudes is harvested by the Arhuaco indigenous people and transported down the mountains on the backs of mules. The Ahuaco farmers are determined to preserve the ancient cacaos with a commitment to organic and forest-friendly farming. The cacao trees are intercropped with palms, fruits and cattle, bringing up bright fruity flavors and delicate nuttiness in the cacao.
